Nature has unique way to show off their creativity and thus we have succulents on earth which are extremely beautiful & attractive due to their symmetrical rosettes and bright colours.
Follow these basic Concepts to keep your Succulents alive
Light Requirements – No Full Sun No Full Shade
Basically there is major misconception about light requirements of succulents, some says succulents are shady plants but some says succulents require full sun. Confuse?
But according to my observation and studies Succulents are neither shade loving plants nor they love full sun.
So what succulent wants?
Bright indirect light is the requirement or morning Sun but before 11.00 am sun
Sun Protection
Yes it’s true like human, plants too need Sun protection and especially succulents; they too get sun burn. ooch..!
To avoid Sun Burn try to keep your succulent in such a place where they will either get only morning sunlight or full day bright indirect light, also you can put some shade above on succulent to protect it from harsh sunlight and hot temperature.
Let Them Breath….!
Yes, always remember all plants are living thing and they like to breath, don’t suffocate them or keep them in congested areas. Especially small creatures like succulents place them near a window or door so that they have a better chance at survival. Good air circulation prevents diseases and keeps the plant infection-free.
Right growing media
The growing media in which succulents are kept should be proper and made up of Sand, Perlite, compost and cocopeat avoid using soil in your media for Succulents. A correct media is that which should not hold the water in the soil and retain moisture in the soil.
Low-water isn’t no-water
Less watering doesn’t mean the quantity of water it’s purely the frequency of water, the ideal frequency with proper growing media is after every 7 days of interval. Always remember Water your growing media don’t water your leaves.
Overwatering: Remember, Succulents can rot and die if you overwater them. More often than not, succulents die of overwatering than under watering. Only water the soil when the soil gets dry. A practice of watering them once in a week is healthy.
Underwatering: Succulents retain water in their leaves. Smaller ones can survive up to 3-4 weeks without water, whereas larger ones can go up to 4-5 months. However, if absolutely no water is provided to the succulents beyond this time, they might die.
Pot
Correct pot size is very important usually, succulents have shallow roots, so they do well in smaller pots as they develop the roots ends quickly. While picking the container for repotting your succulent plants, make sure that the pot has a enough drainage hole and is only 1 size bigger than the previous pot.
Pro Tip: The leaves are coated with a wax film that resists water and protects the plant from sun damage. This wax coating, which is also known as farina, also provides some natural defense against pests and diseases. To keep your
succulent babies happy and healthy, it’s best to avoid touching them any more than necessary because the farina wipes off very easily — and unfortunately, it doesn’t come back once it’s gone.
